Biography:
Berthe Jansen is Junior Professor of Tibetan Studies in Leipzig. She also holds a Dutch Research Foundation (NWO) VENI grant for a project on the relationship between Buddhism and Law in early modern Tibet. In 2015 she defended her PhD in Buddhist Studies at Leiden University. Her monograph 'The Monastery Rules' was published with University California Press in 2018. In 2019 she received a KNAW early career award. Jansen is interested in the place where religion and social policies meet, particularly in Tibetan areas. She further works on (endangered) Tibetan oral traditions and directed and produced a short film on this topic in 2015 (The Last Lama Mani), that was on display in two ethnographic museums in the Netherlands.
