Biography:
Mark A. Nathan is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and the Director of the Asian Studies Program at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He received his M.A. from the University of Chicago in the History of Religions and his Ph.D. from UCLA in Asian Languages and Cultures. He is the author of From the Mountains to the Cities: A History of Buddhist Propagation in Modern Korea (University of Hawai`i Press, 2018) and co-editor of Buddhism and Law: An Introduction (Cambridge University Press, 2014). Nathan's work focuses on the history of Buddhism in twentieth-century Korea, religious pluralism and propagation, and the intersection of law and religion.
